Wild West and Yellowstone

RushmoreDay 1 – Tuesday
Fly from your home to Denver where the “Rockies” welcome you today. Your tour director and motorcoach will meet you at the Denver airport to commence on a tour of this “Mile High City.” Check into your hotel with time to shop or explore the downtown city on your own before kicking off your tour for a gala “Boulder Bar-b-Que Cookout” Dinner.    


Day 2 – Wednesday
Board your motorcoach this morning to journey northward to Cheyenne, Wyoming and historic Fort Laramie. Learn of a time gone by, fur-trading and army life in the 1800’s. After a chance to explore, you’re back in the saddle again! Travel through Custer State Park to the historic Sylvan Lodge to overnight. A great dinner is included this evening at the lodge.

Day 3 – Thursday
Tour the famous Black Hills of South Dakota today. . Your destination today is Mount Rushmore, stopping first at the site of the Crazy Horse carving. This colossal project, yet unfinished, was begun some thirty years ago in honor of the Sioux warrior. Arrive at Mount Rushmore in time for lunch on your own. Enjoy time walking around, photographing and exploring the monument before continuing to the Black Hills Gold Factory and Rapid City to overnight. A delicious dinner await.

Day 4 – Friday
Say “Howdy” to the wild west towns of Lead and Deadwood as you travel westward once more. Explore these restored mining boom towns and you get the feeling of dropping back in time gone by in the heyday of the “wild, wild west.” The next stop is the national monument of Devil’s Tower where you hear of the history, geology and folklore surrounding this spot so sacred to the Indians. Following lunch, the vast prairielands of Wyoming open to us as we make our way to Buffalo, Wyoming. A special treat is in store tonight as we have a catered dinner at the historic Occidental Hotel and a delightful evening in rural America.

Day 5 – Saturday
Leave Buffalo this morning to travel through the Powder River Pass and Ten Sleep Canyon on your way to Cody, home of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Browse through its amazing displays of old west memorabilia. Then you’re off to wonderful Yellowstone National Park. The geysers, canyons, and bears of Yellowstone National Park are so intertwined in our collective memories that even our cartoons use the park as a model: Jellystone Park. You’ll tour the park’s famous sights today before heading to West Yellowstone for a two night stay.

Day 6 – Sunday
This will be your day to explore Yellowstone to its fullest. Yellowstone evokes a torrent of emotions in anyone with knowledge of and concern for the natural world. Here was the birthplace of the national park system, a place so unusual that those who first wandered through were afraid to tell others lest they be labeled liars. Tour the park’s most famous sites before heading back to West Yellowstone and an included dinner this evening.

Day 7 – Monday
Bid farewell to Yellowstone this morning and enter Grand Teton National Park for views of unparalleled scenic beauty. Travel through the Tetons today, see America’s youngest and most rugged mountains piercing the clouds in majestic splendor. Stop for a picture postcard photo of lovely Jenny Lake, then continue on to the special town of Jackson Hole. You’ll arrive for a relaxing afternoon, before rejoining the group for a rip-roarin’ meal at the Gun and Barrel Steak and Game Restaurant., followed by time to explore the saloons, dance halls, and a wide variety of shops and boutiques.

Day 8 – Tuesday
You will travel in three states today – Wyoming, Idaho and Utah, on your way to Salt Lake City. Drive through the rugged Snake River Canyon where there are places the highway hangs high over the river with only a guardrail along the edge. Pas through the pastoral Star Valley, which is a fertile farming valley that stretches across the Idaho border, then make a stop at the picturesque Bear Lake, before arriving in Salt Lake City in the late afternoon. Overnight in Salt Lake and join the group for a special farewell banquet.

Day 9 – Wednesday
Enjoy a downtown tour including the Temple Square this morning before your afternoon flights back to Austin. Return home with incredible memories of scenic attractions and making new friendships with those who shared these wonderful days with you.


This tour includes: 1st Class motorcoach from Denver through Salt Lake City, UT, 3 star or better hotels, porterage for one suitcase, admissions to all national/state parks, admission and taxes for all stated attractions, breakfast each morning, 3 lunches, 7 dinners and services of a full time tour guide for the tour plus one complimentary tour for the escort.

The tour does not include: airfare, items or meals not stated in the itinerary, items of a personal nature such as telephone or laundry, alcohol and gratuities for the guide and driver.
